Timberline Elementary School hosted its Cultural Artistic Leadership Academy (CALA) Art Showcase Thursday, January 26, welcoming parents, staff, and community members to campus to enjoy a variety of artwork on display and musical performances by pre-K through fifth grade students.
TES student ambassadors led guests on a tour through the hallways where the artwork displayed demonstrated the creative spirit of the students inspired by this year’s cultural study about Central America and the Caribbean. However, the art was not the only thing on display. As a “Leader in Me” campus, the leadership qualities utilized by TES students equally impressed visitors.
Every piece of art required students to “begin with the end in mind” and be proactive as they face moments where they must choose attitudes of perseverance and patience.
Representing the performing arts, TES also showcased the talents of its very own Ballet Folklórico and a dance group all the way from El Salvador.
The CALA Art Showcase has grown since its inception during the 2014-15 school year, and CALA teacher Camille Hernandez was committed to continue building on the event each year to make it better and memorable for all who participate and attend.
“I am passionate about my students, my art studio, my school family and the beautiful diversity we have,” Hernandez said. “It is a lot of work, but I would not have it any other way. It takes a village to bring this together – all for my beloved kids. The memories are countless!”
